What can get wet?
Cleaner choice: use a label-and-manual test
Check the machine instructions
Confirm that the product type is allowed on that exact part. A direction for the globe does not automatically apply to the base, sensor cover, seal, or camera.
Read the product label
Make sure the product is labeled for the surface and setting, then follow its dilution, ventilation, contact-time, rinsing, and pet-separation directions.
Remove soil before expecting more
Loose litter, hair, and stuck residue must be physically removed. A stronger-smelling product does not replace washing an approved removable part.
Never mix cleaning products
Use one compatible method at a time. Mixing products can create dangerous fumes or unexpected surface damage.
Rinse and dry where directed
Do not leave unnecessary residue where a cat walks or digs, and never return litter to a damp globe.
The sensor instructions change by generation
Parts that are replaced or kept dry—not washed
Carbon filter
Whisker's care guides describe replacement, not washing. For Litter-Robot 4 and 5, the current guidance says about once per month under normal use.
Brush seal strips
On Litter-Robot 4, Whisker says to keep the base seal strips dry because moisture may make them peel. Replace strips that are worn flat or lifting.
Powered base
This is an electronics housing, not a washable shell. If liquid enters it, unplug the machine and contact the manufacturer instead of testing it wet.
Products and methods to pause before using
- Bleach: Whisker says no bleach on LR3 and no bleach-containing products inside the LR4 globe
- Direct spray on a powered base, control panel, sensor, contact, or camera
- Abrasive pads or tools that can scratch plastic or optical covers
- Unlabeled homemade mixtures or any combination of cleaners
- Heavy fragrance used to cover residue instead of removing it
- High heat used to rush drying unless the manufacturer explicitly allows it
If you are cleaning in a condo or rental, the no-hose apartment guide shows how to protect the tub and drain. If an error appears afterward, do not add more cleaner—use the post-clean decision path.
